SUMMER LEARNING
To encourage your child to write over the summer, we suggest that you provide them with a small amount of time each day to draw pictures of their experiences and add some "words". Remember in kindergarten we are not expected to spell words "the grown up way" but to use the sounds that we know to write using "kid printing". Kid printing is phonetic. We write the sounds that we hear when we say words. In class, we have been focusing on matching the first sound that we hear in a word and adding other dominant sounds. Vowels can be tricky and we often don't include them unless they say the long vowel sound. Using a special notebook or special paper can make the task more exciting for your child.
