Valentine's Day
We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Wednesday, February 13.  If your child would like to bring valentines to hand out to the class please note the following:

       1) Bring one valentine for each child in the class.  Our largest class has 21 children.
       2) Students are encouraged to only sign their name.  Cards may be addressed "To my friend". Please DO NOT address cards to individual students.  You can imagine how busy each teacher would be if they were handing out 21 valentines from each child.
       3) Please DO NOT attach food items.  Cards with food items will be returned.

Letter Learning /y/
Letter /Y/ makes the sound "y" as in yellow, yo-yo and yak.
To write the uppercase letter /Y/ start at the top and draw a line diagonal down. Go back up to the top and draw another diagonal line down meeting up with the first line in the middle.

To write the lowercase letter /y/ follow the same steps as the uppercase but begin at the middle of your line.

Last Week:

Our new dramatic play centre has been opened in our classroom. This building centre allows students to explore designing, building and testing various creations. We observed students create anything from castles to roller coasters! This centre also allowed students to practice their communication skills, as they work together as a team to build their ideas!

Students scientifically studied snowflakes by observing pictures and non-fiction text. Then, using loose parts, students were invited to create a snowflake during centre time.

Our number line continues to be a popular centre, as students practice number recognition and sequencing.

When we write the uppercase letter 'K' we start at the top and draw a big line straight down then we jump back to the top and a little to the right of where we started the first time.  We go in on an angle to the middle of our first line and then back out on the diagonal to the ground.

To draw the lowercase ‘k’ you start at the top draw a big line straight down. Then jump up to the middle and a little to the right of your first line.  Go in on an angle towards your first line and when you touch the first line with your pencil go back out and down on the diagonal towards the home line.

Song: Little Snowflake

At centres we built with magnetic tiles.
We are learning to be architects, using our math and cooperating to make amazing creations.

We used the Lincoln Logs to create houses, stores and treehouses.

We have been exploring with geoboards and elastics to create different snowflakes.
