Letter Learning /m/
To correctly form the uppercase letter M, start at the top and draw a straight line down. Jump back up to the top and draw a diagonal line to the bottom, then go straight back up to the top. Finish by drawing the fourth line straight down.

To write the lowercase m start the same as the lowercase letter n that we did last week and continue your hump over and down to the ground. Finish with a second hump.

Last Week:

I Am An Engineer
We have started exploring through the lens of an engineer.  Students have been looking at famous landmarks throughout the world and have been challenging themselves to recreate them with various materials in the class.  How do you think we did?

In math, students have been playing a familiar game called Dice Race.  This is a game that we learned a few months ago but we have increased the challenge by using two dice.  We roll the dice on a paper plate to keep them from getting away from us.  Next, we say what two numbers we have rolled by subitizing (saying what a number is without having to count the dots).  We then state what number is bigger.  From there we are able to "count on" (which is a mathematical addition strategy for early addition) where we count the dots on the smaller dice to give us our total. We then find the appropriate number on the chart and place a counter in the column.

Home Practice
You can easily play Dice Race at home.  You will need a game board, 2 dice and some counters (pieces of Lego or dry cereal work well). Watch to see if your child is subitizing or counting the dots on the dice if they are counting the total number of dots or using a combination of subitizing and counting on.  You can also have your child practice writing the numeral in the column rather than just placing a counter in the space.
